In today’s post I am sharing my makeup goals, and my every day, go-to, clean beauty products!
SPF or Bust
I have four goals when it comes to makeup. I know it sounds complicated, but hear me out. First and foremost, I want to protect my skin from the sun, and fight against premature aging and skin cancer. Maaaaybe, I could get away with not using SPF in my 20s. (And that is a hard maybe.) But definitely not in my 30s! Since already having 3 skin cancer diagnoses, wearing a clean SPF is one of the best preventative measures I can take for my health.
Ditch the Toxic Ingredients
My second goal with makeup, is to ensure that the products I am using are certified clean beauty. This means, that they are made up of all natural ingredients. Our skin is the largest organ on our body. Therefore, it is essential that we refrain from slathering on potentially toxic ingredients, with fruity fragrances, packaged in a pretty bottle, all in the name of beauty! These sneaky chemicals have the power to disrupt our endocrine system, our reproductive health (say whaaaa?), and cause cancer. Just to name a few! Choosing clean beauty is choosing YOU.
Treating Makeup As Skincare
Speaking of ingredients…my third goal is to choose makeup products that DOUBLE as skincare. Why wouldn’t we ask more out of our makeup? There are a myriad of products available on the market created to serve us, by working smarter and harder. A mascara that contains shea butter and keratin?! An eye shadow that doubles as an SPF?! Yes, please! Through the addition of good ingredients/nutrients, makeup can potentially benefit our beauty from the inside out! So, I am reaching for the ones with vitamins and the yummy good stuff for maximum impact!
Simple is Beautiful
My fourth goal with makeup is to keep it simple. As a mom who spends her days running around chasing an amazing toddler, looking “beautiful” just isn’t a priority. In fact, most days I’m rocking stretchy pants, sweaty sunscreen and a hat to hide my dirty hair. And well, God grant me the patience and hand-eye coordination to try and apply winged eyeliner. It just. isn’t. happening. Makeup for me, is simply a way to enhance what I’ve already got. Fine lines, wrinkles, tired eyes and all.
All the products in this post are clean, vegan, free of sulfates, parabens, phthalates, and more.
I start with Drunk Elephant’s D-Bronzi Anti Pollution Sunshine Drops to prep my skin with a bronze-y glow. This serum claims to have anti-aging results and anti-pollution protection by defending against environmental stressors. A blend of oils and vitamins support the skin’s natural barrier function. While Chronocyclin mimics the antioxidant benefits of vitamin D. It really is like sunshine in a bottle without all the damaging effects!
I LOVE this lightweight CC, or color corrective cream, by Supergoop! This makeup that doubles as skincare serves as my sunscreen and foundation! With an SPF of 35, it protects against UVA and UVB rays. The buildable tinted coverage is perfect for hiding my imperfections and redness. The texture is so creamy and it leaves my skin looking fresh and youthful! I find the coverage lasting me all day long, with a touch up in the evening. I can’t hype this product enough! I absolutely love it.
It contains: Apple Extract to help the skin appear smoother and brighter, and Irish Moss/Seaweed Extract to help protect against free radicals. It also boasts Sodium Hyaluronote to maintain skin’s hydration.
With an SPF of 30, I put a little of this lip balm on my lips for sun protection. I will say that I don’t love the taste. But it is certified clean, so with that being said, I would rather provide my lips some extra sun coverage. I find myself not wanting to leave home without it. Some notable ingredients are Honey, Shea Butter and Sunflower Oil, used to nurture, moisturize and protect against environmental damage.
OMG I am OBSESSED with this concealer! It is the best one I have EVER used. And I am not exaggerating. I love how creamy it is upon application along with the coverage it provides my dark under eye circles. It also hides my redness pretty well too. I use “Tone 2” and it is honestly the perfect shade for my skin! For makeup that doubles as skincare, it has Arnica for helping support the skin’s natural healing process, Caffeine to visibly brighten under the eyes, and Peptides to support natural collagen! This is the queen of all concealers!
I set my CC Cream and Concealer with this weightless, talc-free powder to cut shine and add glow, as well as add a little extra SPF 20 coverage. I use the “Radiant Finish” and love the look it gives. I will dust this on my face sporadically throughout the day if I need a little refresh of my SPF. It contains Aloe to keep skin soft and supple, Hibiscus Extract to help calm the skin, and Rosemary Leaf to soothe irritation.
This bronzer sculpts my cheek bones and adds a radiant bronze-y glow to my complexion. I never feel like it is glittery, only glowy. It is rather pigmented so a little goes a long way but it is still effortless to apply with a buildable coverage! I love that it contains Shea Butter and Meadowfom Oil to moisturize and plump skin’s appearance!
I use this product on the apples of my cheeks AND on my lips! I love a product that has multiple uses, as it saves money, as well as creates consistency in colors. The “I Put a Spell on You” color is described as a “hot tangerine”, however, I find it to be pigmented, yet still soft. It doesn’t look overwhelming “hot” upon application. I love that it is a cream blush, as it looks more natural, giving a naturally flushed appearance. I absolutely love this product for my go-to summer look!
An eye shadow that doubles as an SPF?! Um, yeah, I’m in. I will admit, it doesn’t last all day, but honestly, I’m ok with that. I use the color ” First Light” and use it not only as my eyeshadow, but also as my highlighter on my cheeks and nose. Again, I love a multi-use product for ease and affordability! I just apply with my fingertips and I am good to go! This product contains Flower Essences for antioxidant protection, as well as 20% Zinc Oxide. Yes, yes and yes.
This mascara gives just enough length and volume for my fine lashes. I definitely feel like it moisturizes my lashes, as it never leaves them feeling hard, clumpy or dry. Even in this summer heat, I don’t have much rub off onto my skin, which has been a problem for me in the past with other mascaras. It contains Keratin and Shea Butter for nurturing and moisturizing your lashes.
I switched over to this clean product recently and haven’t looked back! I use the color “Sharon” which I think may be too dark for me, but oh well, it still works! I’m not a brow expert by any means, and well, I don’t have much “fitness” as the TikTokers might say. But overall, I like this product and will continue to use it when I run out!
