12 Slow Fashion Brands That Are Anything but Basic

Slow fashion brands are shining a light on an industry that has massive implications on our planet. From “farm to fashion”, using deadstock fabrics, and encouraging secondhand sales, these slow fashion brands are proving they are anything but basic. In today’s post, I am sharing my 12 favorite slow fashion brands and why they matter. Doen Doen believes in a “few, better things” mentality and in building a wardrobe that is crafted to last. And their clothing is just that. With their use of recyclable and GOTS certified fabrics, their pieces have a life cycle. They even encourage secondhand sales of their items. Christy Dawn Christy Dawn is pioneering a…

Slow Fashion VS. Fast Fashion and Why it Matters

Fast Fashion and its Implications on Our Planet In theory, fast fashion is great, because it brings in-the-moment and on-trend clothes to you and I, at very affordable prices. It is rapidly produced by mass-market retailers in response to an ever-evolving fashion landscape. 52 seasons are being created a year, as opposed to the 4 seasons that exist in nature. It is certainly a modern day luxury that we have such a wide array of clothing choices available to us. However, this inexpensive excess comes, at a large cost. Fast-fashion is affecting our planet. According to an article from Business Insider: Fashion production makes up 10% of humanity’s carbon emissions,…

    Rediscovering Your Personal Style

My personal style journey has been a bit of an evolution. I can look back at certain times in my life, and see how it directly influenced my fashion choices. I went through a LOT of phases. Like my boho phase, to my preppy phase, to my Art Director phase, to my desert wanderer phase…Now, I am in my mommy phase. To be completely honest, it is the phase that I love best, because I feel my happiest. When I began to investigate where I wanted my personal style to go, I took several steps to help lead me to the next phase in it’s evolution. This time around, it…

    June Loop Swimwear

We are ready for summer, well, at least when it comes to what to wear! (Not so much the triple digit heat.) Kaia and I are twinning in our leopard print swimwear from June Loop. Leopard swimmies seem to be all the rage this season and I have to say, these suits are my absolute fave. June Loop was created by my friend Kristie and her mom June, to accommodate the post-partum body. For the past three years, her and her Mom June, delicately sewed each piece by hand. Now, they manufacture their line in the USA. I have several of these suits, and I have to brag about the…

    Wildbird

I set out to find some wildflowers with my little wild flower, close to home. (We’ll stretch our wings a bit farther when she gets older.) As we drifted through the blooming fields, I carried her in my Wildbird baby wrap. I absolutely love this wrap as it can grow with us from her newborn to toddler stage. We have the Stork-Chambray style and I love how minimal it is. The fabric is natural and breathable for those warm summer days. Lately, I have had my eye on this birdy. The peach color is perfect for the season. Baby Wearing Benefits There are so many benefits to wearing our babies. For one, it just…

    Moorten Botanical Garden x LuLu’s

Hey hey beauties. You’re looking so sharp today. I’ll never desert you….these are things I whisper to my cacti plants. Will and I traveled to Palm Springs after our trip to Salvation Mountain and we made a stop at Moorten Botanical Garden. I would like to admit that we are actually really into plants. It is actually one of our favorite past times on the weekends to visit a local nursery and adopt a new plant. We love finding new additions to add to our house as we create our little jungalow together. There’s something just so beautiful about the life and personality each plant brings to the home. We…

    Lovestitch

We stumbled across the Salton Sea after our Salvation Mountain adventure. To our surprise, it was highly polluted and abandoned, except for the overgrown palm trees cascading the skyline. The light was so beautiful, between the setting sun and the rising moon, we couldn’t resist pulling over for a quick detour on our way to Palm Springs. I had packed this “Celine Dress” from Lovestitch Clothing. I love the effortlessly lightweight tencel fabric, as it feels cool even when it’s hot.  It’s not a maternity dress but it seems to fit me and my bump perfectly, so yay for that! I love not having to buy maternity clothes in hopes that…

Strap into Spring with Teva Sandals

My love for Teva Sandals perhaps is nostalgic, as it was created in Arizona during the year I was born. In 1984, a guide on a raft at the Grand Canyon, rigged two velcro watchbands to a pair of flip flops, to make a shoe that wouldn’t float away (genius!). I remember wearing them as a little girl, and more than 30 years later, this iconic sandal is still an endless style and adventure staple. I love staying loyal to a brand that continues to respresent freedom, timelessness, and self-expression. For Spring, I’m strapped into the Terra-Float2 Knit Universal sandal. As much as I love to bring them on my travels, I…

    Resort Wear Dresses for Spring

Over the weekend we spent time at one of my favorite resorts in the valley, The Royal Palms. Will and I were hired to model for their website. They hooked us up with a beautiful casita and fabulous food and drink. The Royal Palms Hotel feels like stepping into another world. It is lush with tropical palms, flowers and plants. It was originally a private home in the 1920’s and then by the second World War, it was converted into an Inn. Today it holds 119 rooms, which creates a very intimate and private experience for all the guests. I could spend all my time leisurely strolling the property, sipping…
